On Saturday 23rd February a group of Austral Probus members met at Leppington Railway Station at around 8:00 am, we then caught the 8:23 am train and changed trains at Glenfield where we were joined by two more members. We commandeered a section of the train and occupied the seats until we reached Circular Quay. On arriving at the Quay members dispersed into various coffee shops for a quick caffeine fix. At that time we found one more new member to join our group making us now twelve in number.
After a short break we boarded the River Cat bound for Parramatta, we had a wonderful tour of Sydney Harbour along the way ogling at the luxury cruise liners berthed in our harbor. During this trip Derek ran a guessing competition with a jar of lollies that Marilyn had prepared and to his embarrassment Derek won the prize, which he then shared with all the members.
When we arrived in Parramatta we boarded a free shuttle bus which took us to Parramatta leagues club for lunch, we were the first customers to arrive and Marilyn quickly rearranged the tables so we could all sit together. The food was all terrific and plenty of it, A few of us greedy ones also indulged in a very sweet desert and coffee to finish off with.
Once we were all full, we headed back to the free shuttle bus for a short ride back to the Parramatta rail station where we caught the train back to Leppington.
This was a great day at a very low cost $2:50 for all our public transport for the day plus around $25 for lunch and drinks.
The day was organised by Derek and Lyn Turner and everyone had a great time despite a couple of light showers along the way. A Big thank you from all the members who attended, hope to see a few more on the next excursion.
Cheers, Gary
