Austral probus trip to Newcastle
On 13th May 2024, fourteen of our club members went on a train journey to Newcastle for three days. There were a few hiccups along the way, our first train was delayed by 30 minutes so we were worried that we would miss our connection at Strathfield. However, we were lucky enough to get there just in time.
After a long four and a half hour journey, we arrived at New Castle Interchange and walked about 200 metres to our Holiday Inn accommodation. A really nice fairly new hotel. We checked in, then around five pm caught the light rail down to the ferry wharf, then a ferry across to the General Washington Hotel for a very nice dinner.

Day two.
This morning, we had a full coach to drive us all around, our driver Neil, was fantastic. He was to drive us to Stockton, but took many side tracks to show us a range of interesting sights, The coal loaders at the shipping terminal, some controversial industry making Sulphate of Ammonia used to make explosives for breaking up ground for large construction jobs.
He then took us to Stockton Wharfe where we caught a Catamaran ferry for a one hour cruise over to Tea Gardens for lunch.

Our coach driver joined us for lunch after driving the long way around to the Tea Gardens. We then headed for a tour of the Tea Gardens, then on for a full tour of Newcastle with amazing commentary from Neil. He was really full of great information, and a really nice guy.
Below are some other photos taken along the way. DON'T Miss the next one.

Day Three
After a hectic two days we were all ready to go home, so we packed up and travelled back home on the trains. Happy to be home with some great memories.
Special Thanks to Chritine Bunce and Faye East for organising this trip.
