Tom Thumb Cruise day out.
“Overcast skies and a little misty rain were not a great start to the day but the weather did not deter the 25 on board the bus. Spirits were high if the volume of conversation and laughter are any indication.
With Michael driving and Dereck navigating we arrived in plenty of time for our cruise of Port Hacking and the Hacking River. The knowledgeable and friendly staff gave us an insight into the history of the area as well as information about the owners of many of the magnificent properties along the shoreline. Have a look at the photos to see the unique way the skipper of the Tom Thumb steered at times. Yes, it was a very relaxing cruise.
Tea, coffee, cordial and an array of good quality biscuits were available during the entire cruise. We were able to help ourselves at any time and we took advantage of it.
Following our three-hour cruise it was back to the bus (some, who shall remain nameless, suggested we leave their straggling wives behind). We didn’t, but had a good laugh imagining them making their way home by public transport.
Back on board and soon we arrived at the Camellia Gardens. Michael showed his driving prowess by managing to turn the bus around in a very tight situation. Wendy (a staff member at the café) had tables ready for our noisy group and the delicious lunch orders were promptly delivered to us. The staff at the Café have invited us back so that shows we must have behaved ourselves.
The drive home was surprisingly quick. The “newly formed Austral Probus Choir” who entertained Dereck and Michael on the way back probably won’t be booked for another gig. Then again, a bit more practice may work wonders.
Thank you to the Activities Committee and everyone who helped make this long-awaited day so successful. We look forward to more outings in 2019.”
